A Cross-Continental Narrative
Filmed extensively across Japan and India, Toh Ti Ani Fuji marks a milestone for Marathi cinema, utilizing an international backdrop to mirror the internal emotional landscapes of its characters. Written by Irawati Karnik and directed by Mohit Takalkar, the story explores the evolution of relationships through the lenses of distance, time, and shifting emotional realities. The narrative centers on a once-passionate relationship that became fractured by toxic dynamics, contrasting personalities, and unfair expectations. Seven years after their initial separation, the former couple unexpectedly reunites in Japan, forcing them to confront old wounds and determine if a love altered by time can be reclaimed.
Producer and Director Insights
Producer Shiladitya Bora highlighted the significance of the partnership with SPNI, stating, “This is a testament to one of our core beliefs, that regional is the new mainstream. We can’t wait for the film to connect with newer audiences, not just in India but across the world. The film reflects our continued commitment to telling newer stories in newer ways, and to expanding the language of regional cinema without losing its emotional core.”
Director Mohit Takalkar elaborated on the film’s themes, noting that it explores how love is shaped by modern urban pressures such as ambition, geography, and timing. “It’s about two people who fall in love with each other with intensity and then slowly discover that intensity is not the same as endurance,” Takalkar shared. “Releasing on Sony LIV and in multiple languages allows the film to reach the audience it naturally belongs to.”
